Dylan Rieck (MM ’09) has won the Principal Cello position in the Portland Opera Orchestra, of which he has been a member since 2015. Founded in 1964, Portland Opera is based at The Hampton Opera Center in Portland, Oregon. Its performances take place in the Keller Auditorium and Newmark Theatre, both part of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts.

Seth Russell (DMA ’19) has won the top prize in the 2019 New York International Artists Cello Competition. New York International Artists Association will present Seth, as well as winners from other instruments, in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in October.

Austin Camerata’s season finale will take place on Saturday, May 18, at 7:30pm, in the ImagineArt Gallery. The program will explore Romani music’s wide ranging influence on European musical traditions, including classical music, flamenco, and klezmer. As the program centerpiece, Cory Blais (MM ’19) will collaborate with local flamenco dancers for Gaspar Cassado’s Suite for Solo Cello. The show will also feature selections from classical composers who were heavily influenced by Romani musical traditions.
